虽然那两位罗马尼亚人走了很可惜，但对于热刺而言真正的悲剧是尤尔根也离开了。我们在场上场下关系都十分亲密，而我完全理解他为什么要走。他的合同里有一处条款允许他在一年之后离开我们。从很多方面来说，他当时的情况和我从诺丁汉森林跳槽到热刺的时候十分相似。尤尔根一直都想为拜仁这个俱乐部效力，而他们也很想签到他。拜仁是德国最大的俱乐部，任何一个德国球员都不可能拒绝他们。如果换成是我，肯定也会做出同样的选择。[在他离开之后]我们仍是好友。关于我们的搭档生涯，他很给面子地说过一些好话。作为回复我只想说——能和尤尔根·克林斯曼一起踢球，我是一个非常幸运的男人。
The depature of the Romanians [Ilie Dumitrescu and Gheorghe Popescu] was a shame, but the real tragedy for Tottenham was that Jürgen did go as well. We had become quite close, both on and off the field, and I fully understood his reasons for leaving. His contract contained a clause giving him the option of moving on at the end of his first year with us. In many ways his situation was similiar to the one I'd been in at Nottingham Forest when Tottenham came in for me. The club Jürgen had always wanted to play for was Bayern Munich, and they were keen to have him. Bayern were the biggest club in Germany; no self-respecting German player would turn down the chance of joining them. If I had been in his shoes, I would have done the exactly the same thing. We have stayed good friends, and he has been kind enough to say some complimentary things about the time he spent playing alongside me. In return, I'd just like to say that if I never play with a better footballer than Jürgen Klinsmann, I shall still have been a very lucky man.
